"You Can't Know Where You're Going"

So I'm re-working this book-length manuscript, "You Can't Know Where You're Going (When There's Something in Your I)," into a staged reading that will last about an hour and that will utilize media (mostly from my research trips) in addition to just me running my trap. The challenge is cutting all of the weak and underdeveloped parts while maintaining the integrity of presenting a well-rounded treatment, without leaving big gaps in the overall narrative. Of course the theme is still: living in modern-day Alabama. I've worked on this project through a Surdna Foundation Arts Teacher Fellowship and through a Lillian E. Smith Foundation Writer-in-Service Residency, and it's just about ready to share with the world.

We plan to run through it as a panel at the Auburn University at Montgomery Liberal Arts Conference (AUMLAC) in February.  After AUMLAC, the hope is that we will have a good enough show to do more of them at small theaters and other venues through 2012. But for right now, we've barely left the driveway on this road trip to who-knows-where . . .
