This video clip from NBC Nightly News explains that over about the past three decades, incomes for the Top 1% have increased 275%, while incomes for the American middle-class have risen by 40% over the same period of time. The statistics used to compile this report came from government reports.
If I were allowed to speak with any of these people who comprise this Top 1%, I would ask: why do you feel the need to compile such massive wealth and moreover how much is enough? I would also like to ask, how much do you have to have before you can admit that regard for the welfare of all people is important? While I do not ever plan on endorsing communism or socialism, which entail the forced "sharing" of wealth, I do endorse basic human decency and I do denounce greed. Maybe, if I were ever allowed the opportunity to ask my questions, the people who comprise this Top 1% could explain to me why my perception of them as greedy and selfish is inaccurate. As it stands now, I see funding shortages affect the lives of so many people and I see a relatively few people hoarding more money than they could ever spend in their lives, and I find myself unable to reconcile or understand the behavior of the Top 1%.
